Research Projects

We are pleased to announce the EURO-NOTES - Olympus Research grant program.

EAES members and ESGE individual members are invited to submit a Research Program on NOTES.

Submission deadline: September 15, 2010

Grant range: €10,000 - €50,000

Eligibility: EAES members and ESGE individual members may submit. Applicants must be MDs (or have equivalent degree), and be currently in a gastroenterology-related or surgically-related endoscopic/laparoscopic practice in academic institutions or private practice.

Submission format and content:

- Proposals must be submitted in English

- Abstract including the study title, names of participating persons with institutions, summary of the proposal (maximum 400 words) should be typed within the appropriate frame

- The below three required documents should be uploaded on submission compiled into one document (word or pdf of max 20 mb) in the following order:

  1. CV (principal persons involved, maximum 2 pages each)
  2. Proposal containing the following sections:
    • Introduction describing the background
    • Preliminary Data (optional): A short summary of the applicant’s previous research relating to the problem.
    • Hypothesis & Specific Aims: A concise summary of the study’s goal
    • Methods: Outline prior studies or your pilot work already completed in this area. Be as specific as possible; describe the methods of collection and analysis of the data. A statistical data analysis plan, including sample size calculations, is required.
    • Conflict of Interest - A statement regarding conflict of interest and/or financial ownership, patent rights, etc. of technique/devices being studied in the grant proposal must be included in each grant application.
  3. A detailed budget in Euros.

Fields of research: Exclusive fields of research to be funded are those prioritized in the NOSCAR WHITE PAPER (Rattner/Kalloo, ASGE/SAGES Working Group on Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery, October 2005, Surg Endosc 2006, 20, 329-333).

Institutional Review Board (IRB): Approval should be included in the submission material if applicable. If approval is not necessary, written details are required.

Reports: The successful applicant is required to submit biannual progress reports to the Research Fund committee. Overhead costs should not exceed a maximum of 10 % of the grant. Only direct costs will be funded. Upon completion of the award, EURO-NOTES Foundation requires a final scientific and financial report. All publications and abstracts must acknowledge support from EURO-NOTES Foundation.

Announcement Winners: The grant winners will be announced at the UEGW 2010 meeting, October 23 – 27, 2010 in Barcelona, Spain.
